No Hibernation for Home Repair Relief

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. As we all start to bundle up and our short-sleeved HomeFront t-shirts hibernate, we find that requests for home repairs accelerate. Many of our neighbors are facing this winter with unsafe exits from their homes, broken plumbing, electrical hazards, heating issues or failing appliances—repairs they simply cannot afford.

That’s why tomorrow, on Giving Tuesday, we are launching our Winter Warmth & Safety Campaign with one clear goal: to complete one urgent, Critical Pro Repair (CPR) project every week, all winter long.

Our Board of Directors believes so strongly in this campaign that they will match every gift—dollar for dollar—up to $30,000 through December 31st. We are so grateful for their commitment, one that makes your generosity go twice as far to keep struggling families warmer, safer and healthier in their homes.

We thought we would share glimpses of two meaningful CPR projects underway right now.

Laurie—Waterbury U.S. Navy Veteran

One common thread in our work is that so many of our applicants are caregivers or neighbors who have given back in their lives. This could not be truer of Laurie, a woman in her late 60s who served in the U.S. Navy. Today’s reality for Laurie involves a Lupus condition which severely impairs her mobility.

The idea of a local hero finding herself unable to safely leave her home and living without working plumbing was more than we could bear. Precious funding from individuals enabled us to activate our Critical Pro Repair service for Laurie’s benefit. HomeFront construction experts installed a small ramp, replaced three broken faucets, changed out a toilet and repaired her shower handles.

But our work was not complete until we replaced the tattered American flag waving in Laurie’s front yard.

Linda—Age 81, Living with MS

Linda faces daily challenges with mobility, hearing and vision. This winter, she was worried about her deteriorating ramp, electrical hazards and a broken refrigerator.

Our CPR Team stepped in to repair Linda’s ramp, get her electrical working safely and restore her refrigerator so she can age in place safely and comfortably. Linda is pictured here praying for all the HomeFront supporters who make this help possible.

Check out the difference we made with her ramp.

Giving Tuesday Eve

Tomorrow, we’ll share more of our plans to complete one CPR project like these every week this winter.

For every one home we assist, there are nine more awaiting our help. With your

support of any amount—and the Board match—we can ensure that more neighbors like Laurie and Linda can stay warm, safe and healthy in the homes they love.

Thank you for helping us to show them that their community cares.

Matched through December 31st.

PS: Giving Tuesday doesn't have to be just about financial contributions. If you would like to share some of your time and talent this Winter, contact Sean O'Brien to learn about our home visits and Lou Valenti to hear more about using your skills to help us fix up homes this winter.
