Types of Home Repairs
The work performed on HomeFront Days can be significant and may include fixing leaky roofs, repairing water-damaged floors and walls, installing new windows and insulation to make a home more energy efficient so the cost of heating a home during the winter months does not go out the window, literally.
Still other tasks might include building a wheelchair ramp; painting ceilings, walls and home exteriors; fixing walkways and repairing steps to make them safe for passage; repairing inadequate or inoperable plumbing, and upgrading a home’s electrical system. Home and yard clean-ups also may be undertaken as part of the one-day home repair tasks.
The specific work completed depends on available funding as well as the skills and number of participating volunteer teams.
Critical Pro Repair (CPR) for the home: Not every home in need requires the help of more than 15 volunteers. Some deserving neighbors only require a trustworthy handy person or two to tackle crucial emergency needs. HomeFront conducts all of the vetting, handles all of the beneficiary communication and provides the materials. Neighbors with construction skills can set aside a few hours or ½ of a day in a neighborhood near you to assist with targeted needs, such as installing grab bars, replacing steps and railings, changing out drafty windows or doors, as well as plumbing, electrical and heating improvements. HomeFront conducts CPR projects year-round as donations allow.
