Your Generosity Carried 10 Families Through Winter

The winter lovers among us had to wait a number of years for the season that was. When we hatched plans for our Winter Warmth & Safety Campaign last Fall, we had no idea what kind of winter we would be facing.

Thanks to you, 10 local families in need did not have to face it alone.

Through our Winter Warmth & Safety Campaign, your generosity helped us deliver urgent repairs in 10 homes—restoring heat, fixing safety hazards, sealing up drafts and making sure our most vulnerable neighbors could stay warm and secure during the harshest months of the year.

One of those neighbors was Erika. Despite her own debilitating health issues, Erika and her husband have been doing their best to provide a warm, safe shelter for a son who is significantly affected by autism.

We took advantage of a fleeting break in the snowfall to conduct our evaluation of Erika’s Naugatuck home. When she took us to examine the mechanicals, we discovered that the hot water heater was leaking. The look on Erika’s face was one we see all too often. She knew that she and her husband did not have this in their budget, but they could not go without warm water in the middle of a tough winter. Thanks to your support, we were able to approve her home as a Critical Pro Repair (CPR) project. One of our staff installed a new hot water heater on the very next day. It would have cost them nearly $2,000 without HomeFront's aid.

This is what your kindness made possible.

Though we all may admit we thought it may never come, the rumors of Spring are true! Now, the same generosity that carried families through winter is already fueling the work ahead.

With so many urgent winter repairs complete, we turn to the projects that warmer weather makes possible. Thank you to the volunteer leaders who have already begun working with us to mobilize our 37th Annual Spring-time HomeFront Days, starting May 2nd! We can’t wait to share all of the “feel good” positive community spirit ahead. For the moment, we will whet your appetite with a corporation that is marking its 25th year of working with us. Congratulations, FactSet Research Systems in Norwalk.

It's not too late if you have a group interested in working with us in late Spring, Summer or Fall. You can contact Sean O'Brien for more information.

Meanwhile, Stay Tuned for More!
