Thankful for YOU!

Thankful for YOU!

Thanksgiving is a really big deal for us in HomeFront. We have cause to give thanks for so much. That is because of you and all you bring to the table. Our service would not be possible without you, the time you carve out of your busy lives, your ideas, your expertise, your compassion, and your precious donations. You help to make sure that our help continues for our neighbors who probably never felt they would need it: older adults who have outlived their savings, “solo agers” who have no family nearby, veterans, persons with disabilities, single-parent households and families facing adversity through job loss or illness. They fill us up with gratitude, as well, for their courage in asking for help and the leap of faith they take in the kindness of strangers. Old Man Winter may be giving our volunteer groups a break, but we wanted to share with you a sampler of all of the positive energy around our Fall HomeFront Day projects. Happily, we have a way of helping people that is weather-proof and well-timed to keep homes in need warmer and safer through the colder season. We wanted to preview a special opportunity to help us do just that this winter. Giving Tuesday 2023 is this Tuesday, November 28th.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us to your home!

Thank You from Some of Our Fall Beneficiaries

“I grew up in the projects in Bridgeport. I worked my way up to own my own home. Now, I can’t work anymore. I just want to thank HomeFront and all of the volunteers for giving their time to help me.”

Patricia worked hard to get certified as a nurses’ assistant. Her career made it possible to own a home and raise a family. More recently, she developed scoliosis and debilitating arthritis in her late 60s. She can no longer work and her home had become unsafe. Help from our individual donors, M&T Bank and volunteers from Talmadge Hill Community Church became the answer to her prayers. Thanks to our last Fall HomeFront Day project just a few weeks ago Patricia doesn’t have to worry about her family coming over this Thanksgiving. Our volunteers replaced her front steps so they are no longer a hazard to her grandchildren and older relatives. Cold drafts won’t be an issue thanks to the new windows and doors they lovingly installed. She won’t be as embarrassed by cracks in her ceiling and walls long overdue for fresh coats of paint. Plus, she has peace of mind with new smoke detectors put in place. Kids can play in her newly spruced up yard, and volunteers cleared out her basement for Phase Two. Through HomeFront’s Critical Pro Repair (CPR) service, expert staff and a pro plumber will be installing a new hot water heater next week and making repairs so she will have heat for the first time in years on her second floor. Here are some images from this transformation.

You can help us keep all of the life-changing work going through the winter on Giving Tuesday, November 28th! Don’t forget your friendly neighborhood mom & pop non-profit. Giving Tuesday is a global movement unleashing the power of radical generosity. HomeFront’s Board is so committed to extending our warmth and safety net through the winter that they are matching every dollar donated up to $30,000 this year. We will be celebrating Giving Tuesday by surprising twlocal families with CPR repairs this Tuesday. Stay tuned for the excitement. Here are a few Before photos of the homes we plan on revitalizing this Tuesday. Donations of any amount can help us reach our goal of tackling 20 high-impact projects this winter.
