FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

500+ Local Neighbors Unite to Restore Safety and Stability for Local Families During Spring HomeFront Days
Annual initiative mobilizes 18 community groups to revitalize 18 homes for older adults, veterans, individuals with disabilities and families in crisis

Wilton, CT — April 27 — More than 500 volunteers from 18 faith communities, civic groups and corporations will come together this weekend for the start of Spring HomeFront Days, an annual initiative that provides life- changing repairs at no cost to families in need.

Mobilized by HomeFront, the outpouring will revitalize 18 homes, uniting 21 cities across CT in the service of older adults, persons with disabilities, veterans, single-parent households as well as families facing financial and often health-related hardships.

Weeks of planning on the part of volunteer leaders will deliver essential safety, accessibility other improvements that help residents remain safely and independently in their homes. Many of the repairs carry added urgency following an unusually harsh winter that placed additional strain on already deteriorating and vulnerable housing conditions. The event brings the program closer to its goal of revitalizing 85 homes in need this year.

“Spring HomeFront Days reflects what community looks like at its best—people showing up for one another in a very tangible way. Over 37 years, more than 3,200 homes have been repaired, but the real impact is the stability and dignity those repairs bring to families who need it most,” said Kenneth Wiegand, HomeFront’s Board Chair.

“We are seeing continued demand for home repair support across our region,” noted Sean O’Brien, HomeFront’s Executive Director. “Through Spring HomeFront Days, our volunteers bring stability directly to our most vulnerable neighbors, right where they live.”

Today’s HomeFront organizes Spring and Fall volunteer home repair group events. The program has also ratcheted up assistance with its new initiative called Critical Pro Repair (CPR). Through CPR, skilled HomeFront staff team up with one or two skilled volunteers to deliver crucial repairs such as wheelchair ramps, step and walkway overhauls and deck repairs to struggling families. More than 150 local families have received essential construction aid from HomeFront through CPR since 2020.

The collective compassion of hands-on volunteers, product contributors, foundations and other donors brings HomeFront to the mark of more than 3,200 homes revitalized in program history, delivering $50 million of service where needed most since 1988. HomeFront is a community-based program dedicated to keeping low- income homeowners in their homes with an improved quality of life through substantial repairs completed at no cost to them.
