Volunteers Commence Campaign to Revitalize 75 Area Homes on Saturday, May 3rd

April 30 — On Saturday, May 3, thousands of local volunteers team up with HomeFront, bringing home repair relief to 75 local, low-income families, including 15 who were victimized by Superstorm Sandy. Some 2,500 volunteers from 75 faith communities, corporations, civic and non-profit groups are taking part in the 27th annual HomeFront Day.

HomeFront joins a newly integrated network of human services, philanthropic, non-profit, faith-based, civic, corporate and governmental partners focused on long-term disaster recovery, locally. Funding from the American Red Cross and AmeriCares is backing 15 large revitalization projects for the homes of Sandy victims. Across CT, volunteers are prepared to remedy damage from Sandy and shore up homes against future violent storms. “More than a year after Sandy's landfall, people continue their recovery from the storm. Thanks to the generosity of donors, the American Red Cross has been helping every step of the way. We are proud to support HomeFront and their initiative in Connecticut that will help families make vital repairs to their homes and reduce their risk of further storm damage,” said Mario Bruno, American Red Cross Connecticut and Rhode Island Region CEO. At no cost to families in need, volunteers are repairing roofs, addressing the affects of flooding, clearing away trees and brush in addition to other forms of relief from wind and water damage.

In solidarity, home improvement experts from This Old House will tackle crucial repairs for a single grandmother, her grandchildren and great grandson. Plumbing and heating expert, Richard Trethewey, from the award-winning This Old House television series, will be on hand, lending his talents to the cause.

The collective compassion of hands on volunteers, product contributors, foundations and other donors brings HomeFront to the mark of 2,800 homes revitalized in program history, delivering $47 million of service where it is needed most.
