Dozens of Volunteers from St. Edward the Confessor Church and Western Connecticut State University to Revitalize New Fairfield Veteran's Home Sept. 21st and 22nd

September 19 — A Korean War veteran from New Fairfield and his family are about to experience a neighborly salute from dozens of local volunteers on Fri., Sept. 21st, and Sat., Sept 22nd. Dramatic transformation is in the works for their home, thanks, in large part, to The Home Depot Foundation. This marks St. Edward’s second massive project with HomeFront this year. Students from Western Connecticut State University are scheduled to join in the effort. These goodhearted neighbors have committed to changing out 11 drafty windows, replacing storm and entry doors, making extensive trim and siding repairs while applying much needed fresh coats of paint.

This partnership with The Home Depot Foundation (THDF) takes HomeFront’s low-income veteran housing response to a whole new level. The Home Depot Foundation funds projects that improve the homes and lives of U.S. military veterans and their families. More than 200,000 veterans reside in CT alone. This New Fairfield project will be the 30th home revitalization efforts funded by THDF for veterans with HomeFront. In the words of HomeFront’s Board Chairperson, Kenneth Wiegand, “For years, The Home Depot Foundation has led by example when it comes to honoring the sacrifices of veterans. HomeFront is proud to join forces with them.”

The collective compassion of hands on volunteers, product contributors, foundations and other donors brings HomeFront to the mark of more than 3,000 homes revitalized in program history, delivering $50 million of service where it is needed most. HomeFront is a community-based program dedicated to keeping low-income homeowners in their homes with an improved quality of life through substantial repairs completed at no cost to them.
