“This Old House” to Renovate Norwalk Home as Part of Volunteer Effort

Project marks TV show’s 12th year with AmeriCares HomeFront

Stamford, Conn., May 14, 2009 — The cast and crew of the Emmy Award-winning television show This Old House and their colleagues at This Old House magazine will once again team up with AmeriCares HomeFront to help a homeowner in need this Saturday, May 16 when they fix up the home of a West Norwalk woman suffering from severe diabetes.

HomeFront is a community program of AmeriCares that provides free home repairs for homeowners in Connecticut and Westchester County, N.Y., who cannot do the work themselves due to financial and/or physical limitations. This year, for the show’s 12th year of participation, television personality and general contractor Tom Silva will work on the HomeFront project alongside the crew of the PBS television program and staff from This Old House magazine and thisoldhouse.com. The volunteers will spend the day painting, landscaping, replacing failed gutters, installing handrails and repairing water damage. The team will be working at 11 Old Rock Lane on Saturday, May 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. rain or shine.

The West Norwalk home is just one of 94 properties renovated by AmeriCares HomeFront this year with the support of more than 4,000 volunteers. Since 1988, AmeriCares HomeFront volunteers have performed more than $33 million worth of repairs to 2,300 homes.
