HomeFront, Friends of Children & Local Volunteers Deliver an Early Christmas

Stamford, November 20, 2015 — Local volunteer professionals plan to complete the last stage of a four-week labor of love benefiting the White family in Oakville on Saturday, November 21st. Every one of them has been giving of their time and talent for a four year-old boy with cerebral palsy who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma this past Spring. Their kitchen was riddled with mold, an extremely hazardous condition for a boy with a suppressed immune system due to aggressive treatments.

The household finances to eradicate this risk were lacking. Led by Greater Waterbury District Captain and HomeFront Board member, Dan Zeno, HomeFront mobilized staff and volunteers to remove every trace of mold by ripping out walls, cabinets, floors and ceilings to remove any concern over mold for the family. Copes Waste Solutions donated the dumpster to dispose of the materials. Funds from HomeFront, Friends of Children, the Watertown Lions and local citizens have helped to cover a portion of this work.

Immediately, mold remediation treatments were applied before all of the work of replacing flooring, ceilings, walls and cabinets could begin. Further measures were taken to prevent recurring mold infestation. Since the young boy is expected to undergo further treatment in a hospital for Christmas, the family’s goal is to have everything completed so that they can celebrate their Christmas early in a safer, healthier home.

HomeFront is a community-based program headed into its 29th year of organizing volunteers to make crucial repairs for local families with financial hardship at no cost to them.

The collective compassion of hands on volunteers, product contributors, foundations and other donors brings HomeFront to the mark of 2,870 homes revitalized in program history, delivering $50 million of service where it is needed most.
