In Memoriam: Fred Weisman

Fred Weisman

April 13, 2015 — Our program is so blessed that a gentleman named, Fred Weisman, responded to a Stamford ad for volunteers back in 1988. Since that time, Fred was a part of every HomeFront season, jumping in as a “hands on” volunteer, volunteer leader, generous supporter, district captain, Board member, and friend of those in need. His life's motto was borrowed from Winston Churchill, “You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give.” Fred courageously battled cancer for 20 years, a battle that never kept him from helping others every step of the way. We are saddened by his passing a few days ago and inspired by his spirit and sense of urgency to help those in need as quickly as possible.

When we featured Fred in a recent newsletter, we asked him to explain why he and his wife, Joan, had given so much over the years. His answer: “We have led a charmed life and wanted to give back.”

Our sympathies go out to the Weisman family. Fred's legacy will live on in our determination to help as many struggling families as possible.
